Welcome to the Schools Linking Network website!
This site offers support for school linking within the UK in the
following ways:
- Through strategic
development of local authority work with school
linking
- Direct school-to-school
linking across the country via the National
Gateway
- By providing resources,
courses and advice for anyone interested in the way school linking
can support active citizenship and greater understanding of issues
of identity and diversity
The Schools Linking Network draws on six years' experience
of local linking in Bradford (go direct to Bradford
Gateway), where we now work with approximately 100 schools per
year. In 2006-7 we also worked with Tower Hamlets, which now runs
its own School Linking Project and in 2007-8 we are embarking on a
national programme to support other local authorities across the UK
to establish sustainable and effective linking programmes which
respond to and meet local need.
We are also working in collaboration with the British Council to
support individual school-to-school links. The National Gateway,
built especially for the Schools Linking Network, will work with
schools to form partnerships in other parts of England.
We are inviting all schools interested in finding partner
schools in England to register on the new National Gateway on this
site. Here, schools will be supported with free CPD and resources
by us, and put in touch with partner schools within their area or
in a different part of England.

Successful school linking is a powerful vehicle which enables
schools to fulfil the new DCSF guidance on Community Cohesion and
enables students of all ages to meet the requirements of the
citizenship curriculum and become confident and articulate young
people. The Schools Linking Network has been developed to support
schools and local authorities to tackle this work with clarity and
enthusiasm.
