Cross phase schools case studies
SLN recognises the value of linking across
different age and year groups.
Some schools choose to work on a cross phase project in order to
expand their students’ learning beyond what they feel can be
achieved from working with one age group. Primary students gain
insight into secondary school life, raising their aspirations and
achievement. Secondary students learn skills of mentoring, which in
turn builds their self esteem and communication skills.
This model has proven to be successful where the link was based
on year 8 students linking with students from their feeder primary
schools; work with school councils; MUN debates; and EAL
Departments.
