Cross phase schools case studies

SLN recognises the value of linking across different age and year groups.

Some schools choose to work on a cross phase project in order to expand their students’ learning beyond what they feel can be achieved from working with one age group. Primary students gain insight into secondary school life, raising their aspirations and achievement. Secondary students learn skills of mentoring, which in turn builds their self esteem and communication skills.

This model has proven to be successful where the link was based on year 8 students linking with students from their feeder primary schools; work with school councils; MUN debates; and EAL Departments.

Cross phase case study: Dosti

Collaboration between different types of institutions, such as between schools and alternative providers; primary schools and early years’ providers; or secondary schools, colleges and work-based learning providers, all support children and young people to make a successful transition to the next phase of learning.
