MUN Events

MUN events are a great way for students to engage in current world affairs, encouraging students to take on and attempt to deal with complex global crises, and ways of dealing with controversial issues. MUN sessions also ask students to debate and consider the legal, moral, economic, environmental, historical, social and cultural dimensions of varying political problems and issues that may be heard by various bodies at the UN.

Model United Nations events tie into the Citizenship curriculum for students from year 9 to post 16 for the following reasons:

By participating, students will get the opportunity to develop a range of skills, including but not limited to, research, critical analysis, communication, public speaking and presentation, co-operation, team work and problem solving. Events also provide the delegates with the environment to represent opinions that they might not hold themselves, and to take on the role of diplomats.

MUN events provide students with the opportunity to participate in individual and collective action that includes decision making (voting on resolutions/amendments), negotiating (lobbying/creating resolutions) and presenting the ideas of their delegation (addressing committee/speaking in favour/against motions).
