Community cohesion

At SLN, we believe that learning about the many different influences on our identity and developing the skills to work and socialise with others from different backgrounds are crucial for children and young people to acquire, if they are going to succeed in this diverse, complex, global society. We encourage you to make use of the support SLN has to offer.

SLN can help you promote community cohesion in your school by:

  • providing resources and training to ensure learners have opportunities to explore issues of identity and diversity and to develop excellent communication skills working with you to help you go further than your statutory duty to promote community cohesion and provide a rich curriculum to support your students
  • encouraging every Local Authority to raise the profile of community cohesion and work with schools to connect this with other priorities.

My own personal perspectives have been challenged and enriched, and the training I have had in such aspects as dealing with controversial issues has had a significant impact on the way in which I lead and manage my school. I cannot overstate the impact which the linking project has had on our ongoing and essential work on diversity, race, equality and community cohesion.
