Experience over the past six years in Bradford has shown us that the most effective way of introducing, supporting and developing school linking work is to work strategically, to start small and to evaluate progress and impact carefully and regularly.

Our aim in working with you in your local authority is to support you through a process from the start through to self-sufficient and powerful programmes.

We provide three days Professional Development for local authority personnel where we take you on a journey of discovery! Effective linking work has many layers, starting with individual learning about identity and diversity. This progresses to ways of facilitating teachers and school managers to operate their own programmes. We provide materials, resources and lots of tried and tested models of ways of working.

Another important part of the process is to be in a position to audit and evaluate cohesion needs in any particular area. No two LAs have identical issues although there are many who have a lot in common. Each LA project is fundamentally unique and appropriate for its needs. (see case studies of different school projects and see Tower Hamlets for a particular way of working with a development education focus).

We will invite you back for a planning meeting once you have had time to do your local audit work and started to put into place some of the requirements following the initial 3-day training. At that point you will be able to access funding to establish your school links.

You will then be part of the Schools Linking Network which will allow you access to ongoing support and resources, as well as an invitation to an annual event where you will be able to share good practice and learning with other authorities.
