Words & Language

Welcome to the SLN Words and Language Section.

One of our themes for 2012 is ‘Our World Through Words’ and we are encouraging you to get involved and take part.

Creative writing is not only a wonderful form of expression, but also a fantastic way of working together and linking across communities, schools and different age groups.  Our experience of working with young people across the country has taught us that a creative use of words and language is, for some people, the most liberating way to say just how they feel.

How to Get Involved?

Take part in the SLN Poetry Challenge for Young People – every month we’ll be inviting you to write a poem based on one of two selected words and we’ll be publishing the winning entries on the website. Get involved in the SLN Let’s Read Together initiative to share ideas about books and develop your IT knowledge and skills at the same time.  We are encouraging schools to set up Quad Blogging sessions.

Poems on the Website

We frequently use poems in our resources and over the years we’ve collated some wonderful examples, which we’d love to share with you … click here for links to poems written by both published poets and students from our linking programmes.
